Frequently asked questions
What if I do not have a marriage certificate?
A marriage is valid if the ceremonies were performed. Wedding photographs, the invitation and witnesses can prove it, and you can still apply to register the marriage.
Do I need originals or copies?
Bring copies to the first meeting and keep originals safe. Your lawyer will tell you which originals the court needs to see.
What if my spouse has the documents?
Tell your lawyer. Many documents can be obtained from the bank, employer or registry, and a court can direct a party to produce them.
